The works presented in One Minute Desire sta rt from an apparent heterogeneity and immediately define two moments or frames within which they operate. While the circumscribing of desire to the time of one minute decrees an aesthetic of the ephemeral, the technical diversity of the works shows a sensitive debate, between the rigour of photography and the informality of drawing, about the weight and the quality of the images that are today banalised in our experience of daily life.

Finding a vibrator and a missile in the same semantic field is not very complicated, as they both share a phallic connotation, yet when Luís Espinheira brings them together through a seductive invitation – Relax – our experience of the object is counteracted, but only momentarily: after all, between the pleasure machine and that of attack there is the complicity of their being products of our anxieties.
