The work
of Maria Pia Oliveira breaks away with boarders, staying focused on
a theme that is obsessively explored, hinting rather than exposing,
rendering space as aethereal as possible, as a means to express the
artist`s spirituality. As suggested by Hegel, human beings evolve from
matter to spirit and Art consists in rendering this dialectic process
objective. In this sense, the work of Maria Pia Oliveira comes close
to poetry - succint, sensorial, condensed, subtle and insinuating, full
of appeal. But questioning at all times how absurd it is to wake up
and find out we are alive. It is simultaneously a playful work, through
which one enjoys such paradise both lost and re-constructed. Why Nature
as protagonist? Pherhaps, as Da Vinci taught us, because "Nature
never transgresses her own laws".
